Kitron breaks ground on new factory in Örnsköldsvik
Kitron has broken ground on its new production site in Gålnäs, Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. Construction is starting earlier than planned. In the spring, the company expected construction to begin in early 2027.
The ground was broken by Hans Petter Thomassen, VP Nordics & North America at Kitron, and Rickard Vahlberg, Managing Director of subsidiary Kitron Eltech, according to a LinkedIn post from Kitron. The investment is driven by growing demand from customers in defence-related industries.
The new factory adds 7,300 square metres of production space. According to Kitron, it will provide more room for serial manufacturing in the Nordics and enable the company to take on larger programmes. Once the site is fully operational, Kitron expects its workforce in Örnsköldsvik to grow from 120 to more than 300 employees.
As Evertiq reported in April, the expansion follows Kitron's acquisition of DeltaNordic, now Kitron Eltech. The new factory roughly doubles the current production space, and unlike the present arrangement, Kitron will own the property.
