Variosystems expands coating and bonding capabilities in Steinach
Swiss EMS provider Variosystems is expanding its conformal coating, gluing and specialised manufacturing capabilities at its site in Steinach. The investments target customers in highly regulated industries such as Aerospace & Defence and Medtech & Life Science.
To free up production space, the company modernised, relocated and expanded its Box Build Assembly Competence Centre in September 2025, according to a press release from Variosystems. The reorganisation has also optimised workflows and increased capacity in circuit board assembly.
The space has since been used for a new silicone application room with an upstream decontamination area, as well as a new Gluing Competence Centre where all gluing processes have been consolidated and complemented by an automated dispensing and bonding system. The coating area has been expanded with a fully integrated coating line to standardise processes.
"Our customers in Aerospace & Defence and Medtech & Life Science face increasingly stringent requirements regarding quality, process reliability, and traceability. Through these targeted investments, we are creating the conditions necessary to meet these expectations over the long term," says Stefan Walther, COO at Variosystems.
More is planned. A plasma surface activation system, intended to improve adhesion and the long-term reliability of coating and bonding applications, is scheduled for 2027, alongside an additional automatic optical inspection system for coating. In the coming months, the THT production area will also undergo further modernisation, layout optimisation and automation.
The Swiss sites in Steinach and Mendrisio operate in close cooperation with Variosystems' German site in Geseke, sharing expertise and complementing each other with specialised capabilities for regulated industries. Variosystems does not disclose the size of the investments.
