Nexperia sues Wingtech for $2 billion in damages

Nexperia has taken legal action in the Netherlands against its Chinese parent Wingtech, Nexperia China and former its founder Zhang Xuezheng, seeking damages it currently estimates at USD 2 billion. At the same time, a Dutch court has granted Nexperia an injunction protecting its intellectual property rights in the EU.

In a statement, Nexperia says that the damages stem from Nexperia China having operated outside the company’s corporate governance framework, under Wingtech’s control, since October 2025, and that this has had a materially negative impact on its business.

On 2 November, the Court of The Hague granted Nexperia’s request for an injunction. It bars Nexperia (China) Ltd. from relying on, enforcing or otherwise using – within the EU – a Chinese court judgment that would limit Nexperia’s ability to enforce its intellectual property rights. Nexperia B.V. is the registered owner of the IP used across the group worldwide, including patents for semiconductor products and manufacturing methods, as well as the Nexperia trademarks.

The new proceedings add to a growing list of cases between the two sides in both Dutch and Chinese courts. In May, Wingtech sued Nexperia and three members of its management in China for CNY 8 billion in damages, and in August a Chinese court froze Nexperia’s equity interests in five Chinese subsidiaries. Nexperia says it continues to supply its customers, enter into partnerships with third parties and expand its global supply chain.
