PowerCo will create 500 new jobs with its Sagunto battery gigafactory

PowerCo, the Volkswagen Group's company dedicated to producing batteries for electric vehicles, has announced a major expansion plan for its gigafactory in Sagunto (Valencian Community). According to data published by Eurofound's European Restructuring Monitor, the company expects to create 500 new jobs in areas such as production, maintenance, quality control, and logistics. Currently, around 1,400 people work in the project's initial phases, including engineering, assembly, and design activities. With the new hires, the workforce will reach approximately 800 employees by the end of 2026, once the factory enters its operational phase. The facility will feature 17 technical clean and dry rooms, totaling 57,000 square meters and designed to maintain extremely low levels of humidity and particles, an essential requirement for ensuring battery cell quality. According to Eurofound, the first production block and logistics areas will be ready before Christmas, while the start of cell manufacturing is scheduled for September 2026. The total investment exceeds 3 billion euros, making this project one of the largest industrial initiatives linked to electric mobility in Spain.
