Evertiq supports Suicide Zero
Instead of Christmas gifts, Evertiq has chosen to support an organization working to radically reduce suicides in Sweden – namely Suicide Zero. “It is with love and care for other people that we do this, and we are more than happy to give to others. I truly believe in raising awareness and spreading knowledge about this issue is key”, says Evertiq’s CEO Irma Björsell.
In 2020, 1,441 people took their own lives in Sweden. The number of suicides has been at this level for the past twenty years, about 1,500 suicides per year. That is one suicide every six hours or about four lives a day. In addition, at least 15,000 people attempt suicide each year – and this is in Sweden alone.
According to the World Health Organization more than 700,000 people die due to suicide every year. And for every suicide there are many more people who attempt suicide. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among 15-19 year-olds.
We at Evertiq chose to do our part to help Suicide Zero to continue to raise awareness, identify societal shortcomings and spread knowledge.
“Our society does not allow us to show weakness or to make mistakes. Everything must be perfect and staged. If you can’t show off success, you’re not good enough – and we compare ourselves with each other, all the time. We have to practice love and self-respect, for ourselves and others, no matter what they’ve achieved”, Irma Björsell says and continues. “We have to allow ourselves to make mistakes and to learn from these so that we get better. We must admit, to ourselves and others, that it is ok to sometimes be weak in life. We need to dare to speak about feeling, about mental illness and in that way help prevent thoughts and ideas that might lead to suicide.”
Evertiq would like to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year and hope for a better future.
