Law firms clarify Europe's environmental directives
There is no case of the state versus producer pending in the courts, yet. However, environmental and regulatory lawyers agreed that although enforcement hasn't come together yet, prosecution against a producer is expected, possibly this year.
Environmental and regulatory lawyers have had their hands full starting with the launch of European Union's Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive in 2005. Producers have consulted lawyers on the WEEE legislation because of confusion caused by varying implementations across Europe, said Felise Cooper, associate at Allen & Overy LLP (New York).
