The yin and yang of lean Six Sigma
Lean keeps it simple; Six Sigma is about the details. Seems contradictory, but when they're done well, they achieve a “greater good," finds Alan Earls.
The old saw “You can't have your cake and eat it too" may be applicable in many areas of life, but as quality and productivity professionals have found over the years, it doesn't hurt to try. That's the basic impulse behind the marriage of Toyota-inspired lean productivity methods and the quality-oriented Six Sigma methodologies that originated with Motorola (which has trademarked the term). Put them together, say boosters, and you've got an unbeatable combination.
