Handset shipment to reach one billion this year

In third quarter the handset shipments reached 255 million globally, up 8 percent from Q2 and a 21 percent increase from the same quarter last year. This increase makes IDC to forecast the global handset shipments to reach one billion this year. The low price mobiles are the best sellers. Especially on the newer fast growing markets such as Turkey, Middle East, Eastern Europe and Africa. The more advanced mobile handsets are selling best on the well established markets. Nokia has 35 percent of the market with its 88,5 million in the third quarter while the second ranked Motorola now has 21 percent of the market. samsung is ranked third with 12 percent of the market with its 30 million handsets shipped and Sony Ericsson has 7,8 percent of the market.
