Arima Opto and Epistar cautious on LED expansion
In response to a report by the Chinese-language Commercial Times, Taiwan-based LED chipmaker Arima Optoelectronics stated that the company's next capacity expansion will not happen until the beginning of 2007 while Epistar said its decision to expand capacity for the second half of this year will depend on how market demand goes.
Unlike demand for handset-use LEDs, demand for LEDs in larger-size applications remains uncertain, according to Epistar. South Epitaxy was unavailable to comment on the company's capacity expansion plan prior to publication.
