Mikron Automation opens its new factory in Kaunas

The Swiss company has officially opened its new factory in Lithuania, Mikron Kaunas.

Mikron Automation engineers and produces industrial automation systems for the global automotive component industry. The currently employs 15 people in Lithuania, but has a plan to recruit up to 50 specialists in the near future, according to a report from Invest Lithuania. “We are glad how quickly we settled in Lithuania. We started scouting for new locations for our expansion last September. After the great preparatory work done by Invest Lithuania and their very valuable assistance in the site-selection process, we made the decision to start up in Lithuania at the beginning of the year, and as soon as in June we produced our first automation module. Today, we are announcing our official opening. We are already working at full capacity and are looking for new team members” Christoph Schelzke, General Manager of Mikron Kaunas, recounts. Mikron Automation’s Kaunas operations is situated on a 1’300 square metre premises on Taikos Avenue, 900 square metre of which is dedicated to the manufacturing processes, the remaining 400 – to engineering and administrative functions. Most of the products manufactured at the Kaunas facility are currently meant for the European market; however, there is a long-term plan of having the facility manufacture for customers across the world. In the mid-term the company plans to hire up to 50 new employees, including a spectrum of engineers, technicians and CNC-operators. “The global scale of automation is rapidly increasing. Mikron’s development and the establishment of the new division of Lithuania will help further develop and strengthen the competences in this sector and maintain a high track record in various industries,” Mantas Katinas, General Manager of Investuok Lietuvoje, says in the report.
