Scania signs battery supply deal with Northvolt

Truck maker Scania has reportedly signed a supply agreement with Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt; and are also discussing a possible equity investment in the battery tech company.

Scania Chief Executive, Henrik Henriksson, told Reuters that the companies have signed the supply deal but that he could not disclose exactly how much capacity the truck maker had secured from Northvolt, but did say that it is substantial. The Swedish battery manufacturer has previously stated that it had sold roughly half of its planned 32 gigawatt annual capacity by 2023. “There will be a shortage of batteries for the automotive sector globally in the coming five to six years because there’s simply not enough capacity. So the more capacity we can get our hands on, the better we feel,” Henriksson told Reuters.
