Even though signals from the industry about companies moving back their manufacturing to Europe are increasing Europe has still lost much of its manufacturing so far. What now is beginning to happen is that Europe is about to become the most important region for design of electronics.
According to an article in EETimes Europe is about to become a leader in design and innovation. "Yes, Europe has lost a lot of manufacturing but I don't think the loss means a loss of leadership," Walden C. Rhines, chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics Corp. Told EETimes.
"Design, not manufacturing, comprises an increasing value of the end product value in electronics," Rhines added.
"Increasingly in the automotive electronics, mobile, wireless and embedded sectors, that value is being added in Europe, not in China, Asia or Silicon Valley", Rhines added.
