Foxconn, Compal to make new Sony Ericsson handsets

Sony Ericsson today announced several new mobile phones. Foxconn International Holdings has recently secured wireless handset assembly contracts from Sony Ericsson. Also Compal Communications will ship 10 million handsets to Sony Ericsson during this year.

According to iSuppli, the move reflects a more aggressive drive by Sony Ericsson to tap the entry- to mid-level segments, especially in emerging regions. Foxconn was the sixth-largest mobile phone manufacturer during 2005, after Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, LG and Flextronics. Foxconn now operates three manufacturing facilities in China, one in Hungary and one in Mexico. Click here to read the press releases about Sony Ericsson's new models (www.sonyericsson.com).
