Silicon wafer shipments increase 13.4% in Q3 as AI demand broadens
Worldwide silicon wafer shipments rose 13.4% year on year in the third quarter, to 3,756 million square inches (MSI). Compared with the second quarter, shipments were up 5.1%.
In the third quarter of 2025, shipments were 3,313 MSI, and in the second quarter of this year 3,573 MSI, according to a press release from SEMI.
Growth was driven by AI-related demand and a recovery in industrial demand. Robotics, power supplies for AI servers and general-purpose industrial semiconductors all contributed on the industrial side. Bonding and advanced packaging applications also continued to support demand for 300 mm polished wafers.
“AI-related demand continued to broaden beyond advanced logic and memory to include power devices and photonics,” says Masatsugu Miura, Chairman of SEMI SMG and General Manager of Sales & Marketing at SUMCO.
