Unimicron Germany enters voluntary liquidation

Unimicron Germany in Geldern was dissolved on 1 November and is being wound down through voluntary liquidation. The company cites ongoing losses and a persistently difficult market, and says it is not an insolvency.

The decision was taken by the company’s owner on 27 October, according to a press release from Unimicron Germany. The same day, Unimicron’s board in Taiwan approved a EUR 35 million capital injection to cover existing orders, severance pay, loan repayments and the cost of the liquidation, as Evertiq reported last week.

According to the release, the group has supported the site financially for several years, but after looking at various options it found no economically viable way to keep it running. Existing orders and delivery commitments will be handled as part of the wind-down and coordinated with each customer. Under current plans, production will be scaled back gradually and end during the first half of 2027.

All employees at the Geldern site are affected. The works council has been informed and invited to negotiate a reconciliation of interests and a social plan. Unimicron Germany doesn’t give a headcount in the release, but German media have reported around 240 employees.
