Benchmark adds second US site for Oxide Computer
US EMS provider Benchmark has expanded production for Oxide Computer Company to a second US site. The added capacity is meant to support Oxide as it scales up deployment of its rack-scale cloud computer for customers’ own data centres.
The two companies began working together shortly after Oxide’s Series A funding round in 2023, according to a press release from Benchmark. Oxide builds an integrated, high-density rack system that lets companies run cloud infrastructure on their own premises. Benchmark started on the engineering side, working on power delivery and thermal performance, which depend on each other in a system that dense. The partnership then moved on to new product introduction and rack-level volume production.
Benchmark contributed mechanical engineering and supply chain development, while Oxide handled electrical design, software and operations. The early design decisions were made by weighing technical trade-offs against supplier readiness and manufacturability.
“When we started Oxide, we talked to many contract manufacturers, but what we needed was a manufacturing partner: one with expertise in areas we lacked, and willing to integrate deeply with our systems and teams,” says Steve Tuck, Co-Founder and CEO of Oxide. “In Benchmark, we found both, and sharing data across engineering, test, and manufacturing has resulted in higher yields, higher quality systems, and happier customers.”
According to Benchmark, the second site adds capacity, test readiness and supply chain flexibility as demand for Oxide’s systems grows.
Benchmark does not say where the new site is located, how much capacity is being added, or whether the expansion involves new hires.
