SCHMID wins €25 million-plus order for HDI expansion in Malaysia

German equipment maker SCHMID Group has agreed an equipment order worth more than EUR 25 million with one of its key customers, which is expanding its high-density interconnect (HDI) manufacturing capacity in Malaysia.

SCHMID has not named the customer. It describes it as a key customer and long-standing technology partner, according to a press release from the company. The release does not say which equipment the order covers or when it will be delivered.

According to SCHMID, the expansion is meant to meet the requirements of next-generation electronic applications, where higher interconnect density and greater manufacturing precision are becoming more important. Along with the equipment, SCHMID will provide process expertise to help the customer scale up production while keeping the quality and reliability required for high-volume manufacturing.

The company places the order within the broader build-up of advanced electronics manufacturing in Southeast Asia, a region it describes as increasingly important to the global semiconductor and high-performance electronics supply chain.

“We are proud to support our customer’s expansion of advanced HDI manufacturing capacity in Malaysia. The project underlines the competitiveness of our technology, our ability to support demanding industrial-scale manufacturing requirements, and the value of close, long-term collaboration with our strategic customers,” says Roland Rettenmeier, Chief Sales Officer of SCHMID Group.
