Aspirity acquires majority stake in Onomondo, leads €100M investment

The investment will drive Danish IoT infrastructure and connectivity company Onomondo’s next phase of growth by expanding its international market presence and scaling its infrastructure deployment.

Aspirity Partners has signed a definitive agreement to acquire a majority stake in Onomondo, a Danish IoT infrastructure and connectivity company, leading a combined investment north of EUR 100 million.

EIFO, Denmark’s sovereign investment fund and an Onomondo backer since 2021, will increase its investment alongside Aspirity, Onomondo said in a press release.

Through innovations like its SoftSIM technology, alongside a capability to deploy hybrid public/private networks, Onomondo delivers an infrastructure-driven architecture to advance edge intelligence. The hybrid network capability is anchored by its deployment of an LTE network at sea across more than 450 Maersk vessels.

“For decades, technological progress was limited by our ability to process huge amounts of data. AI has changed that. The next challenge is creating the right data and getting it to the right place,” said Henrik Aagaard, CTO and Co-founder of Onomondo. “That is an infrastructure problem, and it is the problem we have spent eight years solving. Our network gives customers a consistent way to connect devices, create data and build intelligence into the physical world.”

The combined investment will drive Onomondo’s next phase of growth by expanding its international market presence and scaling its infrastructure deployment, the Copenhagen-based company said.

“The traditional market approach has been to offer simple connectivity and leave the enterprise to manage the operational complexity around it,” said Rasmus Jensen, CEO of Onomondo. “We took a fundamentally different path by building the foundational infrastructure layer that was missing, a single, unified platform connecting the device, the network, and the cloud across global operations.”

“As the physical AI revolution accelerates, managing billions of distributed devices requires intelligence at the network level, deep observability, and absolute control from the cloud to the Edge,” said Ralph Choufani, Co-Founder & Partner at Aspirity Partners. “Co-Founders Henrik and Michael, and the team have built a genuinely exceptional and unique platform that solves these complex challenges by controlling its own global infrastructure and end-to-end technology stack.”

Sonny Wilkens Dahl, Senior Vice President, Global Head of Ocean Operations at Maersk, said working with Onomondo has helped Maersk move from monitoring containers at fixed points in the journey to receiving near real-time data while cargo is in transit.
