Merlin Flex expands long flex lamination capability
UK PCB manufacturer Merlin Flex has installed a new oil-heated vacuum lamination press with a bonding area of 1,800 by 750 millimetres, extending the company's ability to produce flexible circuits in continuous lengths of up to 1.8 metres.
Merlin Flex currently manufactures long flex circuits in volume production up to 1.5 metres, with a maximum capability of 2.0 metres using a dual-lamination bond solution. The new press is intended to close the gap between those two figures as standard production capability, according to a press release from the company.
The lamination press is the third piece of equipment the company has installed this year in partnership with Viking Corp, following a Pluritec Ecospray DS and a Microcraft CraftPix digital inkjet printer.
“The team at Merlin Flex have worked closely with the engineers from Viking to get all 3 machines fully installed, commissioned and production qualified in the same time period, and all 3 machines are already having a positive impact on the company’s daily manufacturing performance” says MD Mark Merifield.
Merlin Flex supplies flexible circuits to customers in defence, aerospace and high-end automotive.
