WB and Kongsberg to jointly develop autonomous maritime systems

WB Electronics, a subsidiary of Poland's WB Group, has entered into a partnership with Norwegian defense company Kongsberg to develop a new generation of unmanned maritime platforms. The agreement combines the expertise of both companies in the design, integration, and production of multi-role systems for military customers.

The joint project will focus on developing autonomous maritime vessels equipped with multi-sensor reconnaissance systems. The platforms will integrate electro-optical and electronic intelligence capabilities, along with additional sensors designed for operations in maritime environments.

The scope of the partnership extends beyond surveillance capabilities. According to the agreement, the systems under development will be capable of integrating various effectors designed to engage maritime targets, enabling the platforms to perform both reconnaissance and strike missions.

The partnership also draws on both companies' experience in crewed and uncrewed systems, air defense, weapon systems, communications, and command-and-control (C2) technologies. A key element of the project will be the development of a common architecture integrating sensors, command systems, and strike capabilities.

The new solutions are being designed to operate in the demanding conditions of the Baltic Sea, although their use will not be limited to that region. The companies expect the systems to be deployable in operations across other maritime theaters as well.
