Saab to build new 80,000 square metre facility in Jönköping
Saab is developing a new production facility of just over 80,000 square metres in Hedenstorp outside Jönköping, Sweden, with move-in planned for 2029–2030. Property developer Vectura has signed a lease agreement with Saab and will develop the facility for long-term ownership, according to a press release from Vectura.
Saab currently employs 1,200 people in Jönköping and has operated out of the Stenholm factories in Huskvarna since the late 1970s, where the company manufactures advanced avionics and military training and simulation equipment, according to SVT Nyheter. Growth in recent years has left the existing premises insufficient for the company's needs.
The new facility at Hedenstorp will bring all of Saab's operations in Jönköping and Huskvarna together under one roof. Property group Fastighets AB Balder will acquire a minority stake in the project upon completion, according to a press release from Vectura.
"Saab's growth in recent years has meant we no longer have room at Stenholm. New demands in terms of technology and innovation have contributed to us no longer being able to operate the way we want in the existing facilities. This agreement gives us the conditions to create a new, modern and sustainable facility that is purpose-built and where we can bring all operations in Jönköping and Huskvarna together in one place," said Joakim Alhbin, site manager for Saab's operations in Jönköping and Huskvarna.
