What is going on at Mercatech?

Several Italian newspapers report that Competence is in danger of bankruptcy. With it 1'400 staff at several locations will lose their jobs.

Affected by the development are the former Jabil sites in Marcianise (Caserta) and Cassina de' Pecchi (Milan). We remember: EMS-provider Jabil Circuits sold its Italian facilities to investment fond Mercatech. A new group was formed called Compétence. Evertiq reported (http://www.evertiq.com/news/17206) However, union and workers are now stating that the company is on the verge of bankruptcy with a real business plan missing or not being followed through. Italian media is reporting and Evertiq receives emails from worried ex-Jabil workers in Italy. Workers have now started to demonstrate permanently outside the manufacturing buildings. It was also noted by Giovanni Di Pasquale (Uilm) that Competence has - since it acquired the facilities and business from Jabil - invested not a single Euro or paid suppliers properly. So what is going on in Italy? So far, no statement from Mercatech, Compétence or Jabil is available.
