Sweden's EMS industry down 2,2% in 2008

According to The Pildal Directory for European EMS providers, Sweden’s EMS industry posted turnover of 1.225 MEUR in 2008, down 2,2% on 2007 level. The number of employees declined 2,5% to 8.500.

Today’s Swedish EMS providers experienced 10,2% turnover growth in 2006, 1,5% growth in 2007 and a decline of 2,2% in 2008. From 2005 to 2008 all company groupings except for the smallest one, were growing. Companies with turnover >50 MEUR in 2008 account for 65% of industry total. However, Sweden’s EMS industry lost volume as a result of company closures during the years 2006 to 2008. One company accounts for almost all of this loss amounting to 393 MEUR. The EMS industry employs 8.483 people in 2008, some 2,5% less than the preceding year. The group of companies with turnover below 2 MEUR reduced their 2008 workforce by 16,6% compared with 2007. Increasingly, the Swedish EMS industry is relying on production at subsidiaries in low-cost countries. In 2008, employees in low-cost countries account for 22,1% of the total workforce.
