Gemfire closes factory in Scotland

US-headquartered Gemfire, a fibre optics company, is going to close down its Scottish facility.

The closure of the Livingston facility (West Lothian) will affect 250 staff. Management reportedly told staff on Wednesday that they were to be laid off. BBC Scotland cited the Livingston MP Jim Devine in saying that the credit crunch was named as reason for the closure. Gemfire was not available for comment.
