Atmel cuts 180 jobs in France

Atmel plans to cut 180 jobs at the production plant in Rousset, France.

The reason for the cut backs is said to be the continuing declines in the dollar against euro exchange rate. Additional to that the company cites increasing production costs as another strong reason. The company will cut 180 jobs in its facility in Rousset, where Atmel currently employs 1450 staff, said the Innovationlejournal. Since the beginning of this year, production capacity at the Rousset site has risen from 4000 to 6000 pieces per week. Image source: Geoff Martin, Wikimedia.
