Fire at Osram's USA plant
Molten glass, which leaked from a furnace, caused a severe fire in the Osram Sylvania plant in Central Falls, USA.
The fire brigade was able to bring the fire under control after 4 hours. Fire Chief Rene Coutu, told the local press that the fire was apparently started by molten glass, which leaked from a furnace and spilled onto the floor. The molten glass then spread further into the building and destroyed a gas pipeline and a high pressure air line. This - in consequence - set off the fire. Residents and workers were evacuated. The operation of the plant will continue as normal - despite the fire damage.
