Matsushita buys UK chip firm Elixent
Matsushita Electronics (aka Panasonic) has recently acquired Elixent, a UK-based start-up specialised in the emerging field of reconfigurable arithmetic processors.
Matsushita’s mission is to establish a strategic European R&D center in the region after it has been financing the Bistrol based company for a long time. No transaction details have been revealed.
Elixent’s products consist of silicon intellectual property, silicon devices and supporting software. First formed in 2000 as a spin off from Hewlett Packard, with the mission to become the leader in reconfigurable processing, Elixent is currently 40 employees strong. The team consists of engineers in the areas of architecture, silicon design, software toolchain and applications software, as well as support staff.
