The Infineon site in Villach is growing

Infineon’s investment in a new automated chip factory and a research building at its site in Villach is making progress.

The new factory with an area of 60’000 square metre is currently scheduled for completion at the end of 2021 and will produce chips on 300mm wafers. The price tag for this massive undertaking is EUR 1.6 billion. When completed, the factory will create 400 new and highly qualified jobs. At the same time, the company is constructing a new building for research and development with a floor space of some 20’000 square metre. Once the new R&D building is completed, it will offer workplaces for 600 employees, out of which 350 will be new R&D jobs. Implications of COVID-19 Infineon Austria says that it naturally supports all measures of the Austrian federal government and implements teleworking at all its locations wherever possible. There are far-reaching precautionary and hygiene measures for its employees in all areas of the company and for construction site operations. However, Infineon Austria is a production company and therefore the activities at the Infineon Villach site are considered to be professional work that cannot be postponed and will therefore be continued.
