Qualcomm with Brazilian plans

Qualcomm and fellow chip manufacturer ASE invest in a chip facility in São Paulo.

The Brazilian Development Bank (Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social; BNDES), has together with its shareholding subsidiary - BNDES Participações S/A (BNDESPAR) -, the two chip manufacturers and a string of Brazilian government bodies, signed a memorandum of understanding to build a semiconductor facility in São Paulo, with an estimated investment of USD 200 million over the next four years. No estimate was given as to when the construction of the facility will Start. Neither on when production will commence. The site is said to be located Close to the technology hub Campinas, where a number of electronics companies – such as Samsung or Lenovo – already have established manufacturing bases.
