Intel to invest $1.6bn in Chengdu operations

Intel is planing to invest USD 1.6 billion to upgrade its assembly and testing facility in Chengdu, China, as the American chip-maker continues to expand its operations in the region.

As part of the investment, the company is bringing its most advanced testing technology to China, and in exchange the company will receive local en regional government support for construction, according to a Reuters report. The new USD 1.6 billion investment comes just months after the company announced a USD 1.5 billion investment to buy a 20 % stake in Tsinghua Unigroup.
