Intilion, CATL to deploy 3GWh sodium-ion energy storage in Europe

The two companies plan to deploy 3 GWh of CATL’s TENER energy storage systems across Germany, Switzerland, Austria and other markets over the next five years, serving both utility-scale and commercial and industrial (C&I) applications.

Intilion, a European energy storage solutions provider, and CATL have signed an MoU with the aim of deploying 3 GWh of CATL’s TENER energy storage systems across Germany, Switzerland, Austria and other markets over the next five years, serving both utility-scale and commercial and industrial (C&I) applications.

“Designed for Europe’s cold climates, CATL’s TENER system delivers over 15,000 charge-discharge cycles and a service life of up to 25 years,” CATL said. “It maintains high discharge power at temperatures as low as -20°C, helping address grid frequency regulation and operational safety.”

Headquartered in Paderborn, Germany, Intilion develops and delivers BESS for utilities, project developers and businesses. As a system integrator, it combines advanced energy storage technology, intelligent control systems and comprehensive services — from initial project planning to long-term support.

Since 2022, Intilion and CATL have deployed more than 30 energy storage projects in Germany. The two companies look forward to advancing the development of diverse battery technologies, including sodium-ion and lithium-ion, across Europe, CATL said.
