onsemi to acquire Ferric for $600 million
onsemi has agreed to acquire US company Ferric, which develops integrated voltage regulators (IVRs) for AI processors, for USD 600 million in cash. Another USD 175 million could follow if Ferric reaches certain revenue milestones.
With the acquisition, onsemi is raising its target for AI data centre revenue in 2030 by USD 500 million, to more than USD 3 billion, according to a press release from onsemi. The deal will be funded with cash on hand and is expected to close by the end of 2026.
As processors draw more power, the industry is moving voltage regulation ever closer to the chip to reduce losses, increase power density and respond faster to shifts in load. IVRs take that one step further by integrating power conversion directly into the processor package or substrate.
Ferric’s technology combines the controller, FETs, inductors and capacitors in a single compact package. According to onsemi, this reduces board area by 50–70% compared with conventional discrete voltage regulators, which leaves a larger share of system power for computing.
“We believe integrated power architectures will play an increasingly important role in the future of AI data centers,” says Noah Sturcken, founder and CEO of Ferric. “Joining onsemi gives us the scale, manufacturing capabilities and customer reach needed to accelerate adoption and bring these technologies into the mainstream.”
Ferric has more than a decade of experience in integrated voltage regulation and magnetics, and holds more than 40 patents. Around 50 employees, mainly in New York and Silicon Valley, are expected to join onsemi.
