Global chip sales top $1 trillion in first eight months of 2026
Global semiconductor sales have passed USD 1 trillion for the year to date, the first time the industry has reached that level, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). August sales amounted to USD 159.7 billion, up 144.3% from a year earlier.
Compared with July, sales rose by 8% from USD 147.9 billion, and the August 2025 figure was USD 65.4 billion, according to a press release from SIA. It is the 18th consecutive month of growth. The figures are compiled by World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) and represent a three-month moving average.
The Americas posted the strongest year-on-year growth in August, with sales up 180.9%, followed by Asia Pacific/All Other at 143.0% and China at 131.3%. Europe grew by 98.5% and Japan by 62.3%. Sales also rose in all regions compared with July, ranging from 6.6% in China to 9.1% in Asia Pacific/All Other.
"Annual global semiconductor sales have already surpassed $1 trillion through August, reaching this major milestone for the first time ever," says Michael Robbins, President and CEO of SIA.
SIA expects global semiconductor sales to exceed USD 1.6 trillion for the full year 2026.
