Carlyle to acquire Nidec Components from Nidec

Investment firm Carlyle has agreed to acquire Nidec Components, a Japanese manufacturer of sensors, switches and encoders, from its parent company Nidec Corporation. The divestment is part of Nidec's planned portfolio rationalisation.

Nidec Components develops, manufactures and sells industrial products including pressure sensors, torque sensors, switches and encoders, according to a press release from Carlyle. Carlyle says demand for the company's products is supported by long-term trends such as AI and industrial automation.

As an independent company, Nidec Components is intended to gain greater flexibility in decision-making, growth investment and resource allocation. Carlyle plans to support the business through global expansion, operational improvements and a strengthened organisational structure, working alongside the existing management.

The deal adds to Carlyle's portfolio of Japanese electronic component and industrial technology companies, which includes Rigaku, TOTOKU, Iwasaki Electric and Kyoden.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. Carlyle has not disclosed the purchase price, when the deal is expected to close, or Nidec Components' revenue or number of employees.
