Lam Research breaks ground on new Oregon lab
Lam Research has broken ground on a new 120,000 square-foot laboratory at its Tualatin campus in Oregon, in the United States. The facility, expected to open in 2028, is the first milestone in a planned USD 3 billion expansion of Lam's global lab network over the next five years.
The new building will increase cleanroom lab space at the Tualatin R&D centre by more than 50% and add specialised capabilities for advanced deposition and etch process development, materials science and hardware validation. The company says that customers will be able to work on-site with Lam engineers through each phase of product development, and the facility will join Lam's integrated global lab network, which it describes as operating 24/7 in parallel across locations, according to a press release from Lam Research.
The expansion is projected to create approximately 900 jobs during the three-year construction period and generate USD 500 million in economic output. Once completed, it is expected to add more than 400 permanent Lam positions in Oregon and increase the company's annual economic contribution in the state to more than USD 1.8 billion.

"Our new advanced Oregon lab is expected to deepen our specialised capabilities and add tens of thousands of square feet of valuable cleanroom space, enabling even closer collaboration with customers while strengthening the expertise and reach of our global lab network."
