Sony Semiconductor returns to full operations at Kumamoto facility after earthquake

Sony Semiconductor Solutions' Kumamoto Technology Center, which was halted following an earthquake in the Kumamoto region on July 28, began staged resumption of operations on August 4. The company expects to return to pre-earthquake operating levels by mid-August, according to updates published by Sony Semiconductor Solutions.

The earthquake struck at approximately 4:27 PM local time on July 28, causing Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation to halt operations at its Kumamoto Technology Center in Kikuyo-machi, Kumamoto Prefecture. Safety inspections of buildings and facilities were completed and recovery work carried out ahead of the staged restart.

No casualties were reported among employees working at the company's sites at the time of the earthquake. Three other facilities in the region – the Nagasaki Technology Center in Isahaya City, the Oita Technology Center in Oita City and Kunisaki City, and the Kagoshima Technology Center in Kirishima City – confirmed no significant damage to buildings or facilities.
