Würth Elektronik develops circuit board material from bacterial cellulose

The Baden-Württemberg-based PCB manufacturer Würth Elektronik Circuit Board Technology is investigating, in the "Cellutronik" project, how bacterial cellulose can be used as a base material for circuit boards. Together with the Institute of Materials Science at the University of Stuttgart and the Hahn-Schickard Society for Applied Research, the company aims to process cellulose fibers from agricultural waste into plate-shaped substrates, with digital printing processes to apply conductor paths made of copper and silver inks
