Micron increases DRAM production in the US

American memory manufacturer Micron Technology is expanding operations at its Virginia facility. The company has begun production of DRAM memory using 1α (1-alpha) technology at its plant in Manassas, Virginia. Micron emphasizes that the upgraded facility will manufacture the most advanced memory technology yet to be implemented for production on U.S. soil. The expansion of the Manassas plant is part of an investment exceeding $2 billion USD, involving modernization and increased production capacity. The new facility has created over 3,100 jobs directly tied to factory operations and the local supply chain. Micron notes that it remains the only memory manufacturer operating in the United States. Qualified production of 1α DRAM memory in Virginia is expected by the end of 2026, with DDR4 wafer production capacity in Manassas set to quadruple after the investment is completed. Concurrently, Micron is advancing other U.S. investments, including a production complex in New York and two new facilities in Idaho, collectively expected to generate around 90,000 jobs and support U.S. economic and strategic security goals.
