Lund AI model detects multiple brain diseases in a blood test

Researchers at Lund University have developed an AI-based model that can identify multiple neurodegenerative diseases simultaneously from a single blood sample. The model is built on proteomics data from over 17,000 individuals and uses "joint learning" to analyze common biological patterns across different diseases. It can distinguish and detect conditions like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS, frontotemporal dementia, and prior stroke. Unlike traditional methods focusing on one disease at a time, this model can handle overlapping brain disease processes—a long-standing diagnostic challenge. While not yet ready to replace current methods, it shows promise for future multi-disease diagnosis and identifies new biological targets for research
