Tower plans expansion of 300 mm capacity in Japan

Israeli semiconductor manufacturer Tower Semiconductor and Nuvoton Technology Corporation Japan (NTCJ) have entered into a mutual long-term supply agreement to meet the growing demand for optical and photonic technologies. Tower Semiconductor has announced a strategic restructuring of its operations in Japan, taking full ownership of the 300mm Fab 7 in Uozu, while NTCJ takes over the 200mm Fab 5 facility. This expansion is conditional on approval of government support from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
