Siemens and Akiem launch new Vectron Dual Mode locomotives

Siemens Mobility and European leasing provider Akiem have signed a framework agreement for the purchase of up to 80 Vectron locomotives, including a firm order for 50 units. The agreement includes the introduction of the new Vectron Dual Mode Electric/Battery locomotives and an option for 30 additional vehicles. This new model expands Siemens Mobility's Vectron platform with a battery-based solution and further develops the existing dual-mode technology. The locomotives can operate both under overhead lines and on non-electrified routes using traction batteries, with first deliveries planned for 2029/2030. Akiem, as the launch customer, will subsequently offer the vehicles in a leasing model, building upon the companies' longstanding partnership, which since 2021 has included orders for 120 Vectron and Vectron Dual Mode locomotives
