Nintendo cuts Switch 2 production by 30 percent

Nintendo is cutting Switch 2 production by over 30 percent this quarter, according to Bloomberg. The decision follows weaker-than-expected demand during the US holiday period. The company now plans to manufacture 4 million units, down from the previously planned 6 million, with the reduction expected to continue into April. Despite a strong launch in June 2025, the Switch 2 has not met Nintendo's high sales targets. While the cheaper model continues to sell well in Japan, US demand has been more muted. Nintendo is reportedly waiting to see if newly released games can boost volumes. However, the cut is not expected to hinder the company's ability to meet analysts' average forecast of around 20 million Switch 2 units for the fiscal year. Rising memory chip prices are also affecting the global electronics industry, but this is not the reason for the production cut, which is solely driven by lower consumer demand. Nintendo has not commented on the report
