Amazon boosts investments in Spain. 18B EUR for data centers and AI

The American tech giant Amazon will allocate an additional 18 billion euros for the development of data centers and artificial intelligence in Spain, Reuters reported. The total value of the company's investment in the country will rise to 33.7 billion euros. The project is expected to generate tens of thousands of jobs by 2035. The investment announcement followed a meeting between Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Amazon's Global and Legal Director, David Zapolsky. Zapolsky stated that the new funds are intended to support the development of technological infrastructure and AI innovation. According to the company, the investment will contribute to the creation of up to 30,000 jobs by 2035. "With this investment, Spain will become Amazon's European operational hub for artificial intelligence," Zapolsky emphasized in a conversation with Reuters journalists. This is the next stage in expanding the company's presence in the country. Last year, Amazon's cloud unit, Amazon Web Services (AWS), announced a 15.7 billion euro investment in data centers in the northeastern region of Aragon.
