Megainvestment in chips in Europe. Imec launches NanoIC for 2.5B EUR

The Belgian research center imec has launched the €2.5 billion NanoIC pilot line. The project aims to strengthen Europe's position in the race for the most advanced semiconductors, crucial for AI development. Imec, a world-leading R&D hub for advanced semiconductor technologies, has opened a new 2,000-square-meter cleanroom facility at its Leuven headquarters. This investment is a key step in implementing the European NanoIC pilot line. Imec's total cleanroom space now exceeds 12,000 square meters, playing a crucial role in achieving the goals of the European Chips Act to bolster Europe's position in developing and manufacturing next-generation semiconductors vital for the economy and industry in the AI era
