Siemens acquires Canopus AI to boost its EDA portfolio

The technology conglomerate Siemens has acquired the French software company Canopus AI. The acquisition was completed on January 12, 2026, and expands Siemens' software offerings in the field of semiconductor manufacturing. Canopus AI, founded in 2021 and headquartered in Grenoble, develops AI-based solutions for computational metrology as well as wafer and mask inspection. This software helps semiconductor manufacturers improve measurement accuracy and process control in increasingly complex manufacturing environments, particularly for advanced technology nodes with smaller feature sizes and higher production volumes. With this acquisition, Siemens is strategically expanding its Electronic Design Automation (EDA) portfolio, aiming to integrate Canopus AI's metrology and inspection solutions with existing Siemens EDA offerings, such as the Calibre portfolio, to strengthen the so-called digital thread between chip design and manufacturing. Siemens believes the combination will contribute to improving yield ramp, process control, and time-to-volume in semiconductor production, addressing the growing need for large-scale measurement data with AI-powered solutions.
