BMW Group and Encory launch direct battery recycling

The BMW Group and Encory GmbH have officially inaugurated the new Cell Recycling Competence Center (CRCC) in Salching, Lower Bavaria, Germany, marking a major step in implementing direct battery recycling, a process co-developed by the partners. This direct method mechanically disassembles battery cell production scrap, including whole cells, and reintroduces the recovered raw materials "directly" into new cell production, bypassing energy-intensive conventional processes. The center will scale up operations to recycle several tens of tonnes of battery cell materials annually, with the reclaimed materials destined for reuse at BMW's pilot battery cell production facility in Parsdorf
