Interest in STEM education continues to grow

Interest in higher education within STEM—science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—continues to grow, according to a new report from the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR). Applications have increased for four of the five fields reviewed for 2025: Computer and Systems Science; Electronics, Computer Technology and Automation; Industrial Economics and Organization; and Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. Only Civil Engineering and Architecture show a decline. Admission scores remain generally high, with increases noted in Industrial Economics and Organization and Mechanical Engineering. The report also notes that women admitted to STEM programmes typically have higher grade point averages than men, despite being underrepresented among both applicants and admitted students
