EU approves €450 million state aid for new Onsemi plant in Czechia

The European Commission has given the green light for €450 million in state aid to build a new manufacturing facility for power semiconductors by US-based chipmaker onsemi in the Czech Republic. The plant will focus on silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors and is considered strategically important for the European semiconductor industry. The aid was assessed under EU funding criteria and deemed compatible with the internal market. The project aligns with the goals of the Chips Act—specifically, strengthening manufacturing capacities for key technologies in Europe. With this planned expansion, onsemi aims to grow its production markets in Europe, stabilize the supply of power semiconductors, and reduce dependence on foreign supply chains.
