Netherlands releases control of Nexperia after talks with China

The Netherlands is stepping back and relinquishing control over the semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia after several days of talks with Chinese authorities. The announcement comes after the government decided to revoke the earlier intervention under the Commodities Act, according to Economic Affairs Minister Vincent Karremans. "Given recent events, it is the right time to take a constructive step and suspend my decision under the Commodities Act regarding Nexperia, in close consultation with our European and international partners. We view positively the measures the Chinese authorities have already taken to secure the supply of chips to Europe and the rest of the world. It is a sign of goodwill, and we will continue the dialogue going forward," Karremans said in an update. The decision, originally made on September 30, 2025, was the first time the law had been used since 1952
