Canon closes German plant

Japan based electronics firm Canon plans to close its production in Hessen, Germany.

The reason of the closure is due increasing production costs and stiff competition from Chinese producers. Approximately 400 workers will be removed. Once this was an ultramodern factory for the production of copying machines. It opened in 1972 with 50 employees and was the first factory for office equipment outside Japan.
